Youth and supportive adults from across Texas gathered in Austin from February 19-21 for an exciting and productive ACCEPT (Allies Cultivating Change and Empowering Positive Transformation) meeting. The meeting was an opportunity for youth and young adults to learn more about how they can lift their voices in their local communities and at the state level to advocate for change.

During the meeting, youth and young adults were able to network with community leaders and agencies by participating in team building exercises. Some of the communities and agencies present included Austin Opportunity Youth Collaborative, Bexar Cares, Harris County, Heart of Texas, Paving the Way, the Rural Children’s Initiative and Via Hope.

Meeting participants began reviewing training materials on authentic youth engagement, and some were able to share their thoughts on the importance of youth-adult partnerships on film to be used in short videos to help amplify their voice Special guest speaker Silas Nacita, a former Baylor football player, shared his story of overcoming adversity while pursuing his dream to play professional football.

The videos recorded at the ACCEPT meeting will be released in the coming weeks as the ACCEPT team begins rolling out several work groups. Keep your eye out for the videos!
